Pregnancy: Week 22

Well, shockingly, more and more people are noticing I am clearly pregnant and commenting on it, such as parents I work with or the grocery store clerk when we are checking out.  Still feeling good though.  This week our peanut reached the length of a spaghetti squash (11 inches and nearly a pound).  She is working on developing her pancreas, tooth buds in her gums, and now has formed eyes but without pigment in the irises. 

This is the first weekly picture taken in our new house!  Sadly, we haven't put anything on the walls yet so it is a little bland and I am tired from a long day at work.  I am still feeling good but am starting to notice the little adjustments I need to make due to this ever-growing belly, like it is harder to roll over at night.  I am still feeling good overall though.  I can feel the baby moving quite a bit, and it seems to be getting a little stronger.  It is still most noticeable when I am sitting down or lying down, but tonight at the grocery store I felt a clear movement standing in line to check out.  I am still feeling good although I do get more tired.  With the move I have taken a little break from the gym but plan to get back on track next week.  Hopefully we will be able to post some pictures of the new house in progress soon!

Pregnancy: Week 21

A belated update from week 21 which was also known as moving week, thus the slight delay (week 21 ended last Friday).  Week 21 saw our baby peanut grow to the length of a carrot (10 1/2 inches) and weigh around 13 ounces.  This week she also developed eyebrows and eyelids.  Very interesting!

I am still feeling good.  I am wearing more maternity clothes mixed in with my regular clothes (maternity jeans that I broke down and bought are pictured) and it is more clear that I am pregnant to the outside world and didn't just eat too much at lunch.

As I mentioned in the ultrasound post, I am feeling our little peanut move more and more, although still mostly when I am lying down or otherwise quiet.  It just feels like little flutters or bubbles but it is clearly not coming from anything other than my expanding belly.  I am still a little more tired than normal, which was a little frustrating during the move, but we managed to make things work.  Overall things are still going smoothly...hopefully we will have some pictures of the new house soon to show you what has been distracting us from weekly belly pics!

Ultrasound pictures!

As promised, here are a few quick pictures of our little peanut from our ultrasound 10 days ago.  We got caught up with a trip and a move since then, but are now getting settled into our new digs and will provide some photos of that once it is a little more photogenic.

In this picture you can see her face to the right, in profile, her little hands clenched up in fists, and her spine really clearly along the bottom of the picture.  I hope it is somewhat understandable...

 Our doctor said everything looks really good and she is measuring just about on target for her due date.

The night of the ultrasound, she also began moving enough so that I can feel it, so those little hands and feet are making themselves known.  It is still subtle and mostly at night when I am lying down, but has started to be noticeable during the day when I am sitting in meetings or at my computer. It isn't yet noticeable to the outside, but hopefully in a few weeks JP will be able to feel it too.  Very exciting!

Quick ultrasound update

This is a busy week so I haven't had time to update or post pictures since the ultrasound. 
I did want to update that our little peanut is a girl!!!  We are very excited and very thankful that the doctor said everything else looked good on the ultrasound scan.  More details and pictures to come...

We were in Albuquerque over the weekend and were able to close on our house earlier this week, so that has been taking up all our time.  We are hoping to be moved in by the weekend and will share pictures of the house then.  I didn't want to say much about our homebuying process because I was afraid to jinx it, but the short version is that we found a townhouse we liked really quickly, were able to agree on a price and inspections fairly quickly, and we closed this week!  The house is vacant so we have this week and next to get everything done before our lease is up on the 31st, although we are hoping to be moved in more quickly.

Pregnancy: Week 20

This is an exciting week in the baby department as we have our sonogram later this morning to check out how the baby is growing and hopefully find out the gender, assuming the baby cooperates! This is also the halfway point already in the pregnancy--time is flying!

According to my emails, the baby is currently the length of a banana. JP objects to this change in comparison objects from round ones, like bell peppers or tomatoes, to bananas and other long skinny fruits and vegetables.  Apparently during the first half of pregnancy the baby stays pretty curled up, so they measure from the head to the rear, but now that the baby is more active they can measure to the feet, justifying the change.  The typical baby at this point weighs 10 or so ounces and measures about 10 inches long, thus the banana.

 I am still feeling good, exercising, and feeling a little more hungry and a little more tired. I had a little minor indigestion after dinner one or two nights this week, but not enough to really bother me, and then it went away.  I am feeling more visibly pregnant (I feel like I say this every week) but I am still able to wear a mix of regular and some maternity clothes. 

We are very excited to get a better look at the baby this morning and I will post an update with the results at some point. It has been a busy week so I am also hoping to get some other updates going soon on some of our recent weekend excitement.  Hopefully all goes well this morning!

Pregnancy: Week 19

Things continue to grow smoothly in the baby bump department.  At week 19, the baby is apparently the size of a large heirloom tomato.  The baby's arms and legs are now proportionate to the rest of its body, and the brain is developing sensory processing areas rapidly.  Some sources say that the baby can hear us now, so hopefully he or she is getting used to our voices.

This week I am sporting another maternity item--this awesome stretchy skirt I got from gap with a giftcard from my mother-in-law. It was comfortable and stretchy and not clearly maternity, but has some extra fabric at the waist to expand with the belly.  It is also loose enough and long enough that I can still sit on the floor and play with little kids when I am out doing visits for work.

I am definitely feeling pregnant but feeling pretty good overall.  I continue to be a little more tired and a little more hungry, but pretty comfortable overall.  I went on a home visit today where a 4 1/2 year old little girl looked at my belly and asked if I was having a baby, the first time a random person, little girl though she may be, commented on my baby bump.

Then, after I got back to the office, a random person (I think a Mom from our parenting class) stopped in the door to my office and asked if I was having a boy or a girl.  When I told her that I didn't know yet, and that I was only on week 19, she asked me which trimester that was (!) then proceeded to explain that she just found out she was pregnant with her second.  I know that the week/trimester thing is confusing for people that haven't dealt directly with pregnancy recently but it seems like most of the moms I know are comfortable with the week-counting deal...

We are getting excited for the sonogram in just over a week, and hopefully I will start feeling some movement from our little peanut one of these days...
