House updates

A quick look at some of the things we (mostly JP) has been working on over the past week:
1.  Windows
These are the windows in the guest room and baby room that needed to have the trim and screens repaired.  We went to home depot and picked out paint that matched the rest of the complex, then JP spent a good chunk of time on Saturday sanding and priming the old wooden trim, then painted on Sunday.  He was able to take the screens to the (local) hardware store and have 2 repaired and one replaced, so we now have pretty looking windows with solid sun-blocking screens. In the picture JP is securing the frames in place.  I will have to get better about before and after pictures but I can definitely say they look a lot better!
2.  Storage:
Our old rental house had a lot of built in storage so we knew we needed to come up with something else to deal with our clothes and stuff here at the new place.  After lots of price comparing we ended up getting a dresser (particle-board type) on sale at target, and were happy to be able to take it home and put it together right away...except a piece was broken, so it sat around for an extra 10 days waiting for the last piece to come so we could put it together.  We spent a good chunk of Tuesday night putting together the drawers and prepping the pieces, so the picture above is how things started on Wednesday.  It is definitely not the most stable piece of furniture I have ever seen (I am pretty sure it is not square right now and we just finished putting it together), but it is done:
It will work for now but is definitely not the kind of thing that could survive a move, but hopefully it will be sturdy and fairly reliable for the next few years.  We put a lot of things in it tonight so it feels like we are making progress on finding a home for everything.

3. Bathroom:
In the picture of the master bath before, I mentioned the need for a new shower curtain but not all the work that needed to go in behind it.  We haven't used this shower yet because it needed some work to get up to workable condition.  JP's Mom heroically most of a Saturday grouting the seams between the walls and the floor, and then JP and I finished up with caulking over the weekend.  There was also a leak in the faucet, so JP watched a lot of you tube videos and together with two trips to home depot figured out how to take off the faucet, remove the parts causing the leak, and replace them.  So we now have a lovely, sealed, grouted, caulked, leak free shower, plus a nice shower curtain and matching bath mat:

So, that is what we have been up to and why I still haven't taken more pictures because we still don't have anything on the walls, but that is on the list for this weekend!
