February 2, 2012

Nicknames:  Abigaily, Munchkin, Sweet Pea, Sunshine, Angel, Amorcita
Temperament: Most of the time happy, alert, curious, observant, studying things, attentive

Item/Toy You Love The Most:  Activity mat, lights, the rubber ducky song
Things We're Loving Most Right Now: having "conversations" with you, watching you on the activity mat, cuddling, singing, and watching you check out the world
Things You’re Loving Most Right Now: nursing, stretching, standing up with us holding your arms, chewing on your hands, playing on the activity mat, hanging out on the changing table, the blue square decoration behind the glider in the nursery

Eating:  Abigail is continuing to eat well although she sometimes becomes a little distracted and more interested in playing with me, especially after she has gotten through some of her meal.  She usually nurses about 6-7 times a day.  We have been having JP give her a bottle a few times a week and she has gotten used to them and is eating well without a lot of spit up.

Sleeping:  Abigail slept for six hours in a row one night this month, and it was amazing!  JP and I felt great and it was amazing to sleep for such a long stretch--I don't think I had slept that many hours in a row since the second trimester.  However, this was an exception instead of the new normal, in spite of our efforts to explain to Abigail how nice it was for her to sleep for so long.  In general, she usually gets up twice to eat, and sometimes wakes up more often if she is uncomfortable.  She is napping well when held but is not that interested in napping in her bassinette or floor bed. She does sleep well in the bassinette at night so we are going to work on napping as she gets a little older.

Playing:  It has been amazing to see how much more interactive and observant Abigail has gotten over the past month.  She has found her voice and seems to say a little more and get a little louder every day.  We enjoy singing to her and having her sing along, and having 'conversations' with her--she is good at taking turns in the conversations. She is also spending more time on her activity mat and on the floor, and showing more interest in the animals, especially their faces.  She is tracking well both horizontally and vertically, although she doesn't do it 100% of the time, and is getting stronger during tummy time too.

On her two month birthday, I left her on the floor mat while I put in the laundry and came out to find this:

She had grabbed the stars hanging off the elephant on her own and was clearly attending to the elephant.  She obviously did not grab it intentionally, but was very interested in what she could see and moved it around for a few minutes before dropping it.  I was very excited!

Growth: Abigail continues to get bigger and longer.  We went to the pediatrician for her two month check up and found out that Abigail weighed 10 lbs, 9 oz and was 23 3/8 inches long!  This means she has grown two inches in the past six weeks and gained almost two pounds in the past month.  She continues to be in a higher percentage for height than weight but since she is moving in the right direction, there are no concerns.  She got her first set of immunizations too and she screamed louder than I have ever heard her and turned bright red!  We were able to stay a little and nurse her which helped her calm down, but she seemed a little fussier for a while after that.  We know it is good for her but we still felt bad for her.
The other exciting thing that happened on Abigail's two month birthday was that Grandma Betty came back for a visit.  It was great to have her here!

So much has changed for Abigail in the past month, particularly her increase in attention and social play with us and we are excited to see what the next month holds.
