Eating: Abigail continues to eat well overall. She has become a little more opinionated about her food and it seems that if it was up to her, she would just eat fruit and carbs and yogurt. She has discovered that she loves bread and seems to have an endless appetite for it. She could also eat a pint of blueberries at a time if you let her and voraciously eats most other fruits as well. She also really likes cherry tomatoes, which seems random, and steamed cauliflower. Recently, she has enjoyed eating sugar snap peas, but only if we open them for her so she can pick the peas out one by one.
Things are the same as far as milk. She is still nursing morning and evening although sometimes it is more like a snack and sometimes she still nurses for longer. It is still working for us so we will see when that changes.
Playing: Abigail is busy playing and exploring all the time. She still likes to be outside and has been really enjoying the pool as it has gotten hotter. Inside, she likes to color, do puzzles, and playdoh, even though she has a fairly short attention span for most of these activities. We still read a lot of books and Abigail's current favorites are Green Eggs and Ham, If You Give a Moose a Muffin, and a book about the zoo. We also spent a lot of time reading the Airport book before our trip which was a hit. Abigail continues to be interested in animals and enjoys the zoo a lot as well as seeing dogs and animals as we are out and about.
I think her favorite toy at the moment is the one door in our house with a latch handle that she can open and close. She loves to say "bye bye" and close it, then open it again and run out, and repeat this over and over again.
She also loves physical games like chasing and being chased, being picked up and thrown around, and will laugh and say more frequently when JP and I do these kinds of things with her.
Growth: Abigail went to her 18 month check up and she is doing great. She is 33 3/4" tall (95th percentile) and weighs 24 lbs 2 oz (60-something %). Her height has jumped up since her last visit, percentile-wise, and seemed to have a big growth spurt before her appointment. Her hair is growing too and she just looks older sometimes! Abigail is in mostly 18 month and 2T clothes these days.
(look how long her hair is!)
Communication: Abigail understands everything we say and responds so quickly. She is really good at matching pictures with items and is so alert to things. She is great at animal noises and will do them when she sees an animal, even from afar. She still signs regularly at school and we use the signs for more, all done, please, thank you, milk and water almost daily in addition to the words. She is saying more phrases in her little Abigail language, like "heh peas" (help please), and "oh no". She likes to say "oh no", such as when something falls down, but also after she throws things on the floor in order to say "oh no"!Her words at this point are: mama, dada, abba (for abigail), Abigail, dog, banana, apple, yes, no, elmo, baby, bee, ball, please (peas), pea, buh buh (butter or peanut butter), bubble, hi, bye bye, ni-ni (night night), wa-wa (water), ba ba (pacifier), turtle, purple, blue, buh (bird), nose, eye, elbow, papa (grandpa), mai mai mai (grandma), bus, airplane, and tuh (truck).
