Busy week at Miguel Pro

JP and the Brophy group arrived safely on Saturday afternoon. After a quick lunch in town the boys came to school and met their host families. The boys were then taken home with their host families, and had Sunday to relax and socialize while JP and the teachers got organized for the work project.  Since Monday, the group has been hard at work building a house for a single mom whose kids attend Miguel Pro.  They have been digging trenches and pouring concrete, but have been stay on their timeline, which is impressive given the uncertainties of this kind of work in Peru.  Here are a few photos from one of the boys:
These are the start of the trenches the boys dug for the foundation of the house.
Here is Deacon Joe catching a rest at the worksite.

In addition to the Brophy group, this week Miguel Pro is also hosting a group of students from the University of San Francisco, which has education students and dance students.  The education students have been doing a service-learning-type project with the kids that involves designing and painting a mural on one of the school walls, and the dance students have done some workshops with the primary school classes and are also putting together a performance with some kids from primary and secondary.  They will perform the dances tomorrow afternoon when the mural should be done, so we will be sure to take photos and share them after the event tomorrow.

In the meantime, here is a photo of the (nearly finished) mural:
This is the view from our window--this is the wall facing the park directly off the main school gate.
Here is a slightly closer look from this afternoon.  More pictures of the finished product to come!
