Nicknames: Abigaily, Munchkin, Sweet Pea, Sunshine, Angel, Amorcita
Temperament: really happy, good natured baby, curious and observant
Item/Toy We Love The Most: books (!), blocks, the rattle, the activity mat, the rubber ducky song
Item/Toy You Love The Most: water bottle, activity mat, your hands, anything you can grab and put in your mouth (or try)
Things We're Loving Most Right Now: watching you figure out a little more about how to control your hands and body every day, singing to you, having "conversations" with you after you eat, hanging out with Daddy in the mornings, helping you explore your toys
Things You’re Loving Most Right Now: nursing, sucking on your fingers, trying to eat everything you can get your hands on, watching the couch and any screens you see, playing on
the activity mat, being a flying baby, hanging out on the
changing table
Eating: Abigail continues to eat well, with a typical daytime meal down to 5 minutes on a side. She takes a bottle well during the day and is up to 5 1/2 oz. She eats a longer/slower meal at bedtime and at her night feeding, which is still happening about once a night, so I can't complain. Abigail eats efficiently and then likes to coo and talk to me with a smile on her face, which is such a nice time in the day.
Sleeping: Thanks to grandma's hard work, Abigail is doing great in this department! She still falls asleep while held but she gets the routine of naptime now and goes down really quickly, then spends the vast majority of her nap on the floor bed. Her morning naps have been stretching out to close to an hour. Last week her afternoon naps suddenly stretched past the two hour mark, and are sometimes closer to three hours than to two. At night she usually falls asleep pretty easily after her bedtime feeding between 7 and 8, and then wakes up for a meal between 12 and 2 before going back down until between 6 and 7. Of course there are nights where she stirs in between quite a bit and needs some intervention to get back to sleep, including the night before her 4 month birthday when she woke up 6 times between 3:30 and 5:30 am. We are thankful that this was an aberration and is not the norm for her.
Playing: As I mentioned in the toy post, Abigail's increased fine motor skills have meant a lot more things to play with. Abigail loves to reach for toys, grab them, and mouth them, and also enjoys knocking over blocks or books. When we read her books she seems interested in the bright colors on the pages and likes to swat at the pages, and we give her credit for helping 'turn' them. She also likes to eat them. She still enjoys the activity mat and is beginning to grab and hold the animals instead of just hit them.
She loves standing up with support and being held in a 'flying' position. We are working on rolling over and although she still isn't crazy about tummy time, she is definitely getting the idea. Over the course of a few days of practice rolling, we were impressed as Abigail learned to pick her head up as she reached her side to prepare for landing on her tummy, and then to get her pinned arm freed. She is pushing up farther with her arms so her chest comes off the ground, and seems to be tolerating slightly longer periods. She loves going outside too.
Growth: We went to the pediatrician for her check up and found out that Abigail now weighs 13 lbs 4 oz and is 25 inches long. This is about the 30th percentile for weight and 70-somethingth for height, plus her head is in the 80-somethings! The doctor was happy with her growth and so are we. She is still wearing three month and 0-3 month sizes although several things, like footed sleepers, have just gotten too short and have had to be retired. Since it is warmer and she is wearing more onesies, we have not had to break out the box of 3-6 and 6 month sizes yet. Abigail is still in size 1 disposables and the same small settings on her cloth diapers. She looks so much older sometimes than when she first arrived!
We have had so much fun with her this month and can't wait to see what next month brings!
