I found myself back in the classroom this morning teaching two hours of senior math. I thought that my days with high schoolers were done when summer school ended in June and any teaching that I might do again would be a number of years off, but I have also been a bad predictor of things. I am going to be teaching two periods of senior math on Friday mornings, a period of 9th grade math on Tuesday afternoons, and teaching some in 6th grade to get the kids ready for the step up to secondary math.
I have been working at the Posta Médica (literally medical post) in the late afternoons/early evenings for two weeks now and things have been going pretty well. I have learned to do little things to help the process move along more smoothly for patients and, when we are not busy, have some projects to work on. I am entering all of our patient names with their file numbers to we can find them more easily and am doing some planning for fundraising and medicine donations from outside organizations. On the medicine side, our stock is quite low right now. There is a shipment in route from a Spanish charity but it has been slow to arrive -- it was first stuck in customs in Lima for some time and is now at the other clinic that is up in the city where they are separating and categorizing. Hopefully they get some stuff to us today or Monday and don't take all the good stuff. On the dental side I am going to spend some time writing some companies asking for donations of toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss.
I sent off all the stuff for my Loyola application so I have only a couple more left and then all my secondary applications will be done.
All the best from Perú!
