Dia de Tacna--Photos
Now that we have corrected our technical difficulties, here are photos of Dia de Tacna.

Here are the alfombras the parents made to decorate the street. They are amazing!

The program started with presentations and speeches by the teachers and a dance performance by the kids pictured below. Also in this picture you can see the side of the chapel where our apartment is, behind the blue fence. The large cylinder on the buildilng is where our spiral stairs are, and the front door to the apartment is back to the right behind that tree in the center.
Getting ready to start the desfile (marching/parade). The little kids from the preschool are walking over to sit on the curb and cheer for the older kids as they march. They are so cute in their little uniforms!
One class from primary dressed up in "traditional" Tacneño clothing, and got to start the parade:
Here are the marchers--as you can see it is very formal with the leg kicks and arms (I don't know the official terminology in english or spanish)

And at the finale, the little kids who were cheering got to march down the street, pom poms and all.
This week we got to accompany the school band to a competition in town, so photos and hopefully videos of that should be coming up soon. Hope all is well with everyone!

Great photos and write-ups. Hard to believe that one of the key ingredients of the alfombras is dirt.
