In Ica

We are staying at a lovely hacienda on the outskirts of Ica, which used to be a winery.  It is about 3 pm now and our overnight bus to Tacna leaves at 5 pm, so we should be back in Tacna around 9 or 10 tomorrow morning.  We checked out of the hotel this morning and took a tour of some of the sites around the city, including a few wineries.  Ica and this area of Peru are known for their grapes and their production of both wine and Pisco, which is a grape brandy used to make the national drink, Pisco Sours. More info on these to come.

So for now, we are hanging out in one of the courtyards here at the hacienda, reading and taking advantage of the free wi-fi here.  Check out our surroundings:

We are sitting in this courtyard, and are surrounded by lovely old details like this:

Plus, maybe five minutes ago when JP was on the computer, I saw this:

JP hanging out while large, peacock-like birds meandered into our area (click on the pic for a bigger version).  We were entertained, but a short while later a staff member came and shooed the birds back to their side of the area.

We are hoping for an easy return to Tacna tonight, and having a few days to reorganize our little apartment, buy food, and get settled before returning to work on Monday.  We hope to share some more pictures and adventures next week!
