From Trujillo, as previously noted, we took an overnight bus to Lima and spent maybe 20 minutes in the bus station before getting on a 5 hour bus to Pisco. We were planning to visit the family that the Brophy Peru Trip had worked with for the past two years. (You can read more about their experience here.)
We went to visit Percy and Magaly's family in their neighborhood several blocks from our hostel in the afternoon. The Brophy Trip worked on Percy and Magaly's house in 2008. Percy and Magaly have three daughters, Lucero, Allison, and Ariana, and a little boy named Percy John Paul, who they call JP just like our JP. But in Spanish they say "Jota Pe", which is the phonetic names of the letters--I found it very entertaining to have the older sisters and the mom saying "Jota Pe" to the little JP, who is just under a year, instead of to our JP.
From their house, we walked to the abuela's house, which the Brophy Trip worked on in 2009. They built the foundation and then the family ordered a sort of kit to construct the rest of the house, so we got to see the finished product:
The house of Abuela Ana is literally footsteps from the beach, so we walked down there in the afternoon.
The girls played in the water,
we all got our feet wet, and the two JPs checked out the scene:
The next day we returned to the beach and went swimming and played soccer with the family. It was great to see how everyone was doing for JP and for me to meet the people I had heard so much about.
From Pisco, we took one more short bus to Ica, our last stop before returning home to Tacna.
