Hiking again

We are trying to make a point to get out and go hiking at least once a weekend to enjoy the awesome weather this time of year and burn some calories.

So the last weekend in February we set out in the cold-ish weather for another adventure. I think it was in the high 50s and windy at points.  Here we are all bundled up:

We went back along the Sabino Dam but above it, and then went exploring on a new trail by the water. It was really pretty!

Here is the scenery:

We meandered on this trail until we got to the Sabino Creek in the main canyon.  We had to choose between retracing all our steps or crossing the river even though it was high due to the snow the other week.  We went back and forth but decided to just take off our shoes and make our way across. The water was not higher than our ankles and was cold but doable. Luckily I had a towel in my bag so we were able to dry off and have a snack afterward.

This is the river we crossed (afterwards):
You can see a bit of concrete in the foreground that is usually dry to walk on. The water was so high that there were two sections to cross with a little island in between, but it is hard to see in the picture.

We made it in one piece, enjoyed our snack, and headed home!
We were back over by this same river this past weekend and the water was still really high and cold. We took a different trail this time and did not have to cross the river, but we did have Abigail put her feet in!
